Welcome to A Southern Gardener

A Southern Gardener, Inc. was born on a spring day in 1994. Located in Grosse Pointe Park, we service the gardens of the Pointes and the eastside of Detroit using natural, and when possible, organic processes. We enjoy restoring, rejuvenating and refreshing your landscape through natural practices grown from experience.

Mil Hurley founded the company based on her love of the outdoors. She grew up on a 200 year old historic family farm, Longview, in eastern North Carolina where her journey in gardening began. Sharing the fondness of nature, her team members are equally passionate about the beautification of the community and dedicated to enhancing your experience with A Southern Gardener.

The gardens designed, installed and maintained by A Southern Gardener have been recognized repeatedly by various institutions including the Grosse Pointe Garden Center and the Indian Village Men’s Garden Club in their annual garden tours.

The goal of A Southern Gardener is to provide the client with more than a garden but a lifestyle, one in which the nature of the yard beckons the indoors out to inspire, entertain and enlighten.
